Privacy
FridgeWorthy is an app for keeping your child’s artwork. This page explains what happens to that artwork, and to everything else you put into the app.
The short version: almost nothing leaves your phone. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. The one exception is described in full under “Smart tagging” below, and it is off until you turn it on.

What stays on your device
All of the following is stored on your device, in the app’s own storage, and is never transmitted to us:
- The artwork itself — the photos you scan or import, and the edited versions.
- Voice notes — recordings of your child talking about a piece.
- What you write — titles, themes, dates, and any corrections you make.
- Artist details — the name you enter and, if you choose to add one, a birthday. A birthday is optional; the app works without it.
- Descriptions produced by smart tagging — titles, captions, colours, transcribed handwriting, and the estimated drawing stage, once they come back.
- Your settings, and a randomly generated identifier described below.
If you turn on “Save scans to Photos”, scans are also added to your own Photos library. The app only ever adds to Photos; it never reads your library. Photos you choose to import are handed to the app by the system picker, one at a time, without giving the app access to anything else.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. Deleting a single piece inside the app deletes that piece’s image, its voice note, and everything recorded about it.
Smart tagging — the one thing that leaves your device
Smart tagging is off until you turn it on. The app asks once, plainly, after you have added your first piece, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings. If you never turn it on, nothing in this section happens and no artwork ever leaves your device.
When it is on, then for each new piece:
- What we send. A downscaled copy of the artwork photo (long edge reduced to 768 pixels). Your child’s age in whole years, but only if you have entered a birthday — the age helps estimate developmental drawing stage. A random identifier generated on your device when the app is installed, so we can stop one installation from overwhelming the service.
- What we do not send. Your child’s name. Their date of birth. The title, notes, or anything else you have written. Voice notes. Your location. Anything about your device or about you. There is no account, so there is nothing to attach any of it to.
One thing we cannot promise away: if your child has written their name on the drawing, it is in the picture, and the app transcribes handwriting it finds so you can search for it later. That transcription comes back to your device and stays there.
Where it goes. To a service we operate, which passes the image to Anthropic’s Claude model to be described, and returns the description to your phone.
What happens to it. The image is held only for as long as the request takes. We do not store it, log it, or keep a copy. It is not used to train any model. Anthropic processes it to produce the description and does not use it for training. Anthropic may retain API inputs for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring; see Anthropic’s privacy policy.
The identifier. It is a random value created on your device. It is not your device’s identifier, not derived from anything about your device or you, and is not shared with anyone. It exists solely to rate-limit abuse of the service. Deleting and reinstalling the app produces a new one, and there is no way for us to connect the two.
Children
This app is designed for a parent or guardian to use, about their own child. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app has no way for a child to create an account, message anyone, or share anything.
The artwork is your child’s, and you decide what happens to it. If you would rather none of it left your device, leave smart tagging off — every other feature works exactly the same.
What we never do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking. No third-party SDKs of any kind.
- No selling or sharing of personal information with anyone, for any purpose.
- No tracking across apps or websites. The app never asks for tracking permission because it never tracks.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera — to scan artwork. Frames are processed on your device.
- Microphone — only when you record a voice note.
- Photos (add only) — to save scans and exported reels into your library. This does not give the app permission to read your photos.
Each is asked for at the moment it is first needed, and declining leaves the rest of the app working.
Your rights and choices
Because everything lives on your device and we hold no personal data about you, there is no account to close and no data of yours for us to return or delete.
- To stop the one upload: turn off Smart tagging in Settings.
- To delete a piece and everything about it: delete it in the app.
- To delete everything: delete the app.
- If you believe we hold information about you and want it removed, write to fridgeworthy@chakrabit.com and we will act on it. Depending on where you live you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA, or India’s DPDP Act; we will honour requests under any of them.
This website
Everything above is about the app. The site you are reading this on collects nothing by simply being visited: its fonts, styles, images and scripts all load from this domain, and there is no analytics script, no advertising pixel, and no third-party embed, so nothing here follows you around the web.
If you give us your email address to be told when the app ships, we store:
- Your email address — so we can email you.
- The date you signed up, the two-letter country Cloudflare reports for your connection, and which page the form was on.
- A one-way hash of your IP address — enough to stop a bot filling the list with junk, but not something we can turn back into an address. The address itself is never stored.
- Your browser’s user-agent string, for the same anti-abuse reason.
That list is stored in Cloudflare D1, in Cloudflare’s infrastructure. It is used for exactly one thing: telling you when FridgeWorthy is available. It is never sold, rented, or shared. You will get one launch email and nothing else unless you ask for it, and every email carries a one-click unsubscribe.
Want off the list, or want to know what we hold about you? Email fridgeworthy@chakrabit.com and we’ll delete your row and confirm it.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top and, where the change is material, say so in the app before it takes effect.
